I remember when Facebook was a “college only” social network. You had to be a member of a college in order to access it. Back then, it was known as “thefacebook”. It was a great way to socialize with your teachers, professors and other members of your college. That was in 2003.
Fast forward to 2018, it has become “the” source for socializing all over the world (except in China and a few other places). Of course, with ads. And annoying “Trends” now. Back then, we didn’t have any of that nonsense. It almost paid for itself.
I believe, that Facebook is still a young and sometimes vibrant place to interact with your family and friends. But I think it also has been politicized so much, it’s almost reprehensible. I suppose that is what you get from a “free” site such as Facebook.
Maybe, if they charge their members, we can get only the contents we want and since we are “paying” for it, we can also allow as many, or as few stuff on our newsfeed. That includes no ads. Of course, since it is a company. It will do what it chooses. Just as we will continue to choose whether we want to continue to go on there or not. Free or not.
