Centbee wallet releases open alpha version on Play Store

Bitcoin wallet provider Centbee announced that the open alpha version of its wallet app is now available on the Google Play Store.

The demo app, which can be downloaded here, uses TESTNET coins as demo money to allow its users “to see how it works without using real money.” On its website, Centbee said it decided to use TESTNET coins for now “so that our fans can try it out and let us know what they think, without using their actual Bitcoin Cash coins,” and reminded users to avoid sending Bitcoin Cash to their Centbee wallets.

To receive the free TESTNET coins, send an email with the subject “Buzz me!” along with the user’s Bitcoin Cash ‘receive’ address to support@centbee.com.

“We’re making Centbee the easiest way to store, spend and send Bitcoin Cash safely on your mobile phone and we know our fans can’t wait to download it, play around with it and let us know what you think,” according to Centbee.

Twitter user @SebPloetzeneder said the app allows “seamless transacting with contacts on your phone,” adding, “Like WhatsApp, it will offer chat functionality. But with a dedicated button to send money around as easily as an emoji on your smartphone”—but only for Bitcoin Cash.

South Africa-based Centbee is founded by co-CEOs Lorien Gamaroff, an expert in blockchain technologies and cryptocurrencies, and Angus Brown, who has 20 years of experience in payments and banking. Together, the two are building not just a wallet, but an entire ecosystem that uses Bitcoin Cash.

With its promise of delivering a game-changing ecosystem replacement, Centbee has attracted high-profile investors from the blockchain field, including blockchain research and development firm nChain Group, which has taken an equity stake in the South African company through its investment entity nChain Reaction Ltd.

“Centbee is trying to make it easy for people to use Bitcoin Cash,” Gamaroff previously told CoinGeek. “Right now, if you want to use Bitcoin Cash, it’s quite complex, you know. It has a lot of concepts that are quite alien to people, specifically the addresses and the confirmation times and so on. What we’re trying to do is we’re trying to make the experience very much like using it in existing social media app like WhatsApp or Twitter because we think that people are used to using those apps, and if the Bitcoin experience is exactly the same is that then the adoption will grow a lot more.”

Note: Tokens on the Bitcoin Core (segwit) Chain are Referred to as BTC coins. Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is today the only Bitcoin implementation that follows Satoshi Nakamoto’s original whitepaper for Peer to Peer Electronic Cash. Bitcoin BCH is the only major public blockchain that maintains the original vision for Bitcoin as fast, frictionless, electronic cash.
